Not only did the Yankees lose Sunday's spring training game, but they lost outfielder Curtis Granderson for 10 weeks with a fractured right forearm.
Sean Ochinko and Emilio Bonifacio each had an RBI in the Toronto Blue Jays' 2-0 victory.
Granderson was drilled by an inside pitch from Toronto left-hander J.A. Happ in the first inning. Granderson left the game in obvious pain and was initially diagnosed with a bruised forearm.
He was taken to a local hospital for X-rays, which revealed the fracture.
Granderson played the top half of the first in left field, as the Yankees experiment with moving Brett Gardner to center field. New York planned to have a starting outfield of Granderson, Gardner and Ichiro Suzuki in some alignment on opening day.
The 31-year-old Granderson hit .232 with a team-leading 43 homers and 106 RBI in 160 games last season.
Happ gave up three hits over two scoreless innings to pick up the win for the Blue Jays, who were coming off a 10-3 victory over the Tigers on Saturday.
Adam Warren tossed two scoreless innings for the Yankees, who had 11 different players record a hit. Cody Eppley gave up one run on two hits in the third inning to take the loss.
