Women’s History Month to kick off at Miami City Cemetery

The production is presented by the African American Performing Arts Community Theatre Inc. At 3 p.m. today, there will be a Industry/Social Media Friends Show. Admission is $15. The remaining show dates are: 8 p.m. on March 1 through March 9; 3 p.m. on March 10; 8 p.m. on March 15 and 16, and 3 p.m. on March 17. Tickets are $20 each. Haitian women’s group marks 20 years

Fanm Ayisyen Nan Miyami/Haitian Women of Miami, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a "Dancing Under the Stars" cocktail reception at 7 p.m. on March 7, at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, 260 NE 59th Terr. Tickets are $125 per person.

Also, the organization will host a "Breast, Cervical and Colorectal Cancer Conference and Health Fair" from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 23 at the Center for Haitian Studies, 8260 NE Second Ave. in Miami.

If you attend the 20th anniversary celebration, the $125 per person ticket will include the conference and health fair. Conference and Health Fair only is $25 per person. For reservations and more information call FANM at 305-756-8050.

5k will fight hunger

Members of the community can have an impact on ending hunger by walking or running "Miles for Meals" during Feeding South Florida’s Third Annual March for Hunger 5k Walk/Run on March 3, at Charnow Park, 300 Connecticut St. in Hollywood. Registration starts at 6 a.m. and the race starts at 7:30 p.m. Registration is $25 (which equals 150 meals) in advance and $35 (which equals 210 meals) on the day of the race.

If you plan to participate, you may register online by visiting www.active.com/running/hollywood-fl/march-for-hunger-2013.

Walk-in registrations will be taken at the park on the day of the event. For every dollar raised, Feeding South Florida can provide six meals. Participants are asked, but not required, to try to raise $100 each (which equals 600 meals). Awards will go to the tope three in each age group: top Three Overall Winners, male and female; Top Three Fundraising Teams and Top Three Fundraising Individuals.

Corporate sponsors are need to help Feeding South Florida make the March for Hunger a success, and are available by calling the organization's Community Investment Department at 954-518-1818 or email communityinvestment@feedingsouthflorida.org.
