Seattle Sounders FC announced on Saturday that the club has signed former Liverpool defender Djimi Traore.

The 32-year-old spent 16 professional seasons in Europe, including seven with Liverpool, where he won the 2005 Champions League.

"Djimi has a great deal of experience and has played in the top leagues in Europe," said Sounders FC sporting director Chris Henderson. "He's a very good defender and makes smart decisions with the ball coming out the back. Djimi brings us confidence and leadership in the back."

Traore appeared in 150 games in all competitions for Liverpool, while he also enjoyed stints in England with Charlton and Portsmouth.

He most recently spent time in France with Marseille, and has earned 10 caps for the Mali national team.
