Jets' Redmond undergoes emergency surgery

The Sports Network

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Redmond was hospitalized Thursday after having his leg seriously cut by a teammate's skate during a morning practice.

Redmond sustained a laceration to his right femoral artery and vein as the Jets were preparing for Thursday's road game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The rookie was transported to an area hospital and underwent surgery for approximately three hours to repair the wound.

The Jets said in a statement that Redmond, who has participated in eight games this season and recorded one goal and three assists along with 12 penalty minutes, is currently resting comfortably and will be sidelined for an indefinite period of time.

The team also credited its training staff and Redmond's teammates for helping to avert a potentially life-threatening situation.

"The Jets would like to recognize the quick actions of the team's training staff and teammates in helping Zach receive the urgent treatment necessary," said the statement.
