TEAM OF THE WEEK

The Miami High girls’ basketball team clinched its first berth in the state final four since 2005 with a dramatic 37-35 victory over Lourdes in the Region 4-8A final. Melsheree Reid scored the game-winning layup with six seconds remaining, and Beatrice Mompremier finished with 12 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Allen Baez, Miami High, boys’ basketball: Baez had 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Stingarees to a 53-40 win over Carol City in a Region 4-8A quarterfinal.

Walker Blanco and Diego Miller, Westminster Christian, boys’ basketball: Blanco made the winning shot with two seconds left off an assist from Miller to beat Archbishop Curley 56-55.

Daniel Coffey, Palmetto, boys’ basketball: Coffey had 21 points to lead the Panthers to a 51-44 Region 4-8A quarterfinal win over Columbus.

Nia Roberts, Norland, girls’ basketball: Roberts had 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals to lead the Vikings to a 69-37 win over Naples Barron Collier that clinched their sixth trip to state in eight seasons.

Danielle Minott, Miami Country Day, girls’ basketball: Minott finished with a game-high 22 points to help the Spartans advance to the state final four in Class 3A with a 50-48 win over Weston Sagemont.

Nosomy Pozo, Southwest, wrestling: Pozo dominated St. Thomas Aquinas’ Shiquan Hall with a 12-3 major decision to win the 132-pound Class 3A state championship.

Nick Wethy, Columbus, wrestling: Wethy won the 220-pound state title in Class 3A with a 2-1 win against Kissimmee Osceola’s Ben Cruz to clinch the Explorers’ first individual state title in 20 years.

Ritchie Guillaume, North Miami Beach, wrestling: Guillaume won the 145-pound state title in Class 3A with a close 1-0 win over Christian Lohsen of DeLand.

Danny Garcia, Doral Academy, wrestling: Garcia won the 138-pound Class 1A state title with a 10-5 victory.

Peter Llerena, Mater Lakes, baseball: Llerena threw a four-hitter, striking out seven in six innings to lead the Bears to a 3-1 win over nationally ranked Plantation American Heritage.

Elias Trenhs, Braddock, baseball: Trenhs struck out six in a four-hitter to help the Bulldogs beat Southridge 3-0.

Kelli Kleis, Westminster Christian, softball: Kleis went 2 for 4 with three RBI and earned the 8-7 win over Lake Worth Park Vista.

Devan Cinalli, Archbishop Carroll, softball: Cinalli picked up two shutouts in wins against Jackson and Ransom Everglades.

Shaun Berman, Miami Country Day, boys’ tennis: Berman swept his match to lead the Spartans to a 6-1 win over La Salle.

Julieta Dalmau, Gulliver, girls’ tennis: Dalmau won her No. 1 singles match to help the Raiders edge Ransom Everglades 4-3.
