Are we losing perspective in this country? The principles spoken by Sen. Marco Rubio in his rebuttal speech to the president’s State of the Union expressed the rules of cooperation that have developed through generations of human experience and collective reasoning that promote the betterment of the individual and society. The greatest threat to liberty is an all-powerful central government, where the few dictate to the many. For much of American history, the balance between governmental authority and individual liberty was understood and accepted.
Democracy seeks equality in liberty, statism seeks equality in restraint and servitude. Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.
