WHAT SOUTH FLORIDA FANS ARE TALKING ABOUT

1. HEAT: LeBron rules! James’ record streak powers Miami into break: Heat entered All-Star Weekend on seven-game streak punctuated by win at Oklahoma City, and LeBron James topped 30 points in every game of that streak. I know we were all a little concerned three summers ago, but, Miami signing LeBron — it seems to be working out OK.

2. UM BASKETBALL: Canes No. 3 in polls, dreaming of national title: The Miami men’s basketball team has zoomed from unranked to 25th to 14th to eighth to third in a remarkable, whirlwind month unlike any other in program history. UM plays at Clemson on Sunday. The rematch at No.2 Duke is in 13 days, six hours, five minutes and 15 seconds. Not that we’re counting.

3. NBA: Miami has three starters in Sunday’s All-Star Game: East coach Erik Spoelstra of the Heat chose Chris Bosh to replace the injured Rajon Rondo, joining LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in the starting lineup. The All-Star Game is like a regular NBA game, except defense is illegal, based on scores that tend to be around 148-139. And that’s at the half.

4. MARLINS: Spring training opens amid fan anger, low expectations: Miami’s first spring game is in four days. The Marlins are back to their standard ways of low payrolls and low expectations because owner Jeffrey Loria thought last year’s high-salaried, star-studded aberration was too exciting and potentially a medical risk for fans who might have a heart condition.

5. UM BASEBALL: Clouds loom as coach Jim Morris, Canes open schedule: UM, scheduled to face Rutgers this weekend, is unranked, Morris is under pressure to end a College World Series drought, the program mourns the recent death of icon Ron Fraser, and strength coach Jimmy Goins is suspended over a PED allegation. Otherwise, all’s well with the program!

• A friend of O.J. Simpson, Norman Pardo, is trying to sell a movie about efforts to rehabilitate Simpson’s image after his 1995 acquittal for double murder. Hmm. I’m guessing O.J.’s current 33-year prison sentence for kidnapping and armed robbery might be further hindering those efforts.

• Answer: Andy Roddick will play in the World Team Tennis league this summer. Question: You know how sometimes athletes say they’re retiring but don’t really mean it?

•  Norman Braman said he is ready to fight the Dolphins’ stadium-improvement plan. Of course he is! New nickname for Norman: The One-Man Picket Line.

• The International Olympic Committee voted to discontinue wrestling. I’ve enjoyed hearing the outrage from people who could not name an Olympic wrestler to save their life.

• The “independent” Paterno Report concluded Joe Paterno did all he could in the Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal. In an unrelated story, a new Nixon Report has concluded Watergate wasn’t that big a deal.

• Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum has cut his hair short. He no longer looks like a guy who should be co-starring with Cheech in a bong ad.

• Longtime former Red Sox favorite Kevin Youkilis said this week he is “proud to be a Yankee.” Bosox fans used to chant “Yoouuuu!” The new chant will sound similar, but be slightly different.

• The Miami International Boat Show ends Monday. I thought of buying a really nice boat once, then got smart and decided instead to cultivate a friend who owned a really nice boat.

• Sentences I Never Thought I’d Write: “And in winter sports, World Cup ski-jumping events recently were won by people named Schlierenzauer and Seifriedsberger.”

• At a recent seminar in Hollywood, local residents were told how to deal with wild coyotes in their neighborhoods. The agreed-upon answer: Have a roadrunner drop an Acme anvil on them.

•  Parting thought: Rocco Mediate won in Boca Raton in his debut on the PGA’s Champions Tour made up of senior players who are older and past their prime. It’s like watching a Knicks game!

This type of doubt should only provide fuel for Heat

Sunday might be the biggest sports day ever in the city of Indianapolis, with the momentum-infused Indiana Pacers hosting a home playoff game the same day as the Indianapolis 500 for the first time ever.

LeBron needs to post ‘help wanted’ sign

LeBron James sported a Nike T-shirt some 90 minutes before Friday night’s game that was plain white but for three small words stamped big and black in block letters:

Greg Cote: Miami Heat’s Game 1 thriller signals real start of playoffs

This was more like it. Ten games in, the playoffs felt like they started for real for the Heat here Wednesday night. Welcome back, tension and doubt. Good to see you again, major challenge. We missed you, edge of seat.
