Black elected officials to be honored
The Broward Black Elected Officials will present their 2013 Community Service Honorees at the gala "Hold Fast to Dreams," at 7:30 p.m. on March 1 at the Seminole Hard rock Hotel and Casino.
Receiving the Political Spotlight award are, Broward County Commissioner Dale V. C. Holness and West Park Vice-Mayor Felicia M. Brunson; Community awards will be presented to Bobby and Bertha Henry and Levoyd and Beverly Williams. .
The Lifetime Achievement award will be presented to U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, and a special award will be presented to Broward County Vice-Mayor Barbara Sharief.

Jewish Baby Boomers to mingle
The JSBoomers, a new group for Jewish single baby boomers (born 1946-1964) at Temple Israel of Greater Miami, will have a "Sip, Nosh, Chat" mixer at 6 p.m. Friday at the temple 137 NE 19th St.
The event is free and an opportunity for single boomers to meet new people in a warm, Jewish setting. Community members are invited and are encouraged to bring a friend. Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Those attending are invited to stay for the 7:30 p.m. Shabbat services, to be followed by Oneg. Lecture to discuss the Jews of Greece
As a part of its bi-weekly program, the Isidoro Lerman Senior Adult Enrichment Program of Temple Menorah will present a lecture by Dr. Rachel Lapidot entitled, "The Jews of Greece."
The lecture will be in the Olemberg Hall at 7445 Carlyle Ave. in Miami Beach. The cost is free to Temple Menorah members and $10 for non-members. Reservations are required. Call 305-866-0221 to make yours.
Steve Miller to speak atUM
Blues-rock legend Steve Miller will present a lecture at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Gusman Hall on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus.
During the lecture, Miller will share personal anecdotes, including those regarding his humble start, his rise to fame, and what he feels is important for the success of today’s young musicians.

Miller will appear in concert with the Frost Concert Jazz Band at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the BankUnited Fieldhouse. The group will perform classic blues tunes and some of Miller’s biggest hits arranged by Frost students specifically for Miller with big band.
