COOKIES FOR THE GOLD

Members of Girl Scout Troop #272 in Miami Beach are selling Girl Scout cookies through Sunday (Feb. 17) in an effort to earn the prestigious Gold Award. Cookie proceeds will help the girls, ages 15-17, to fund projects including Strumming for Strength (teaching kids to play the guitar), Teen Depression Outreach and Hop-Scotching for Health. Cookies are $4 per box. Popular brands include Thin Mints (a long-time favorite), Samoas and Tagalongs. Counting calories? Cookies can be donated to the military. To order, call Troop Advisor Cindy Hill at 305-496-4591 or email girlscout272@gmail.com.

MORE MATZO

The Matzo Ball is expanding. The 26-year-old event, held on Christmas Eve in cities across the U.S. (including Miami Beach), was originally created to provide Jewish singles (age 21 to 45) with a place to meet on a night when most venues are traditionally closed.

The Matzo Ball will host its inaugural President’s Weekend party on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 10:30 p.m. at Mansion, 1235 Washington Ave. in South Beach (and simultaneously in Washington, D.C.).

“We realized there’s a void in the market for our clientele throughout the year. We are partnering with JDate and other online dating services to offer additional opportunities to develop relationships,” said Andrew Rudnick, founder of the Society of Young Jewish Professionals, which hosts the event.

Rudnick says plans are also under way for a MatzoBowl World Tour, to be held at Lucky Strike bowling alleys in 14 cities. It kicks off March 31 (Easter Sunday) in New York City, and will come to Lucky Strike Miami Beach in April.

Cost for Feb. 17 event is $20 in advance, and $30 at the door (cash only.) For tickets or more information, visit www.matzoball.org.

Beach Buzz runs every other Sunday, and focuses on people and businesses throughout the Beaches, Aventura and Miami. To reach Debra K. Leibowitz, call 305-531-7887 or email beachbuzz@att.net, or become a fan of her Beach Buzz page on Facebook.
