A Chinese Lunar New Year celebration was held at St. Thomas University on Sunday, Feb. 10, in Miami Gardens. The free event was open to the public and also featured an ancestral-veneration ceremony, lion dances and a reception.
A rededication ceremony was held Friday, May 10, for the Brucie Ball Educational Center in Miami. Brucie Ball, who had been the assistant superintendent of the Office of Special Education and Psychological Services, passed away in 2008. The former Merrick Educational Center was renamed at a School Board meeting on March 13 in recognition of Ball’s efforts in special education.
