I’m sick of hearing people rant about the state pension program. I work for a school system maintenance department and am paid a portion of what my civilian counterparts receive. This pension will give me enough to survive, but certainly not a life of luxury.
We are held to a higher standard than our trade counterparts. We have taken a number of pay cuts due to furlough days, pension costs to us, and raises in a poor insurance plan. I’m by no means complaining; I like my job and feel that we deserve something when we retire. All I ask is for people to be more informed when making comments about the Florida Retirement System.
