Shoppers looked for bargains during the city of Sweetwater's flea market, which was held to raise money for the League Against Cancer at the Jorge Mas Canosa Youth Center on Saturday, Feb. 9. The fundraising efforts were organized by Commissioner Isolina Marono. The League Against Cancer is a nonprofit organization that provides free medical care to cancer patients.

    Sweetwater names day for longtime Commissioner Manuel Duasso

    The city of Sweetwater has proclaimed May 6 to be Commissioner Manuel Duasso Day. Commissioners Jose Manuel Guerra, Isolina Maroño, Jose Diaz, Duasso, Jose Antonio Bergouignan, Mayor Manny Maroño and Prisca Barreto celebrate the moment at the May 6 commission meeting. Duasso, who received the proclamation for serving on the commission for close to 20 years, was elected in 1995. He moved into the city in 1973. He applied for the position of maintenance director in 1978. He plans to continue to run for another four-year term when his seat is up for reelection in 2015.
