On Citizens Insurance, you don’t need a rocket scientist

 

Re the Feb. 5 article, State rips Citizens’ spending: Citizens Insurance has been getting away with many scandals and not one top executive has been fired. It wastes $8 million a year on leased office space and $10,894 per month for an unoccupied office in Tallahassee, and officials have the nerve to raise our premiums and deductibles.

Gov. Rick Scott twice had to call on his Inspector General to investigate. Didn’t the IG see this the first time around? I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to discover these scandals. By the way, where in the world are our lawmakers?

Is there something wrong here or is it just me trying to keep up with paying Citizens Insurance while they’re out of control?

    Juneteenth — a celebration of freedom

    Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with the news that the war had ended and freed all remaining slaves. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation — which had become official on Jan. 1, 1863.

  • Bees not news

    Re the June 16 story Miami couple saddened after bee hive destroyed: It must have been a slow news day for the Miami Herald. This article took up two-thirds of a page in the newspaper’s local section.

  • Bees could be saved

    An experienced bee keeper could have moved the beehive to a less troublesome location; perhaps on the couple’s property where they could continue to enjoy the bees and the bees could continue to do their good work.
