The NFL has reiterated its desire to reduce concussions and other injuries to players. But I think they dropped the ball at the Super Bowl. I saw helmet to helmet hits and needless late hits on the quarterbacks; none of them called by the officials.
If a baseball pitcher comes close to hitting a batter and the umpire thinks it was intentional, the pitcher gets a warning. If another pitch comes close, the pitcher is ejected —no arguments. It should be the same for football. A 10-yard penalty to the offending football player’s team doesn’t compensate for what could be a career or life threatening injury.
