Violinist to perform for Valentine’s Day
Grammy-winning violinist Hilary Hahn, will appear in concert on Valentine's Day at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.
According to a press release, Hahn's "probing interpretations and technical brilliance have made her one of the most sought after artists of our time." At 32, she has earned international fame and recognition, which in addition to two Grammy Awards, also include the 2008 Classic FM/Gramophone Artist of the Year award.
The program will include Bach's Chaconne, Faur'e's Sonata No. 1. Corelli's Sonata No. 4 in F Major as well as a selection of her In 27 Pieces: the Hilary Hahn Encores, as series of short-form compositions for violin created by 27 different composers which were commissioned by Hahn.

Chastity Days for eighth-graders
Eighth-graders who are currently attending Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Miami will attend one of four Chastity Days scheduled in February in Miami and Broward counties. At the events, the eighth-graders will be encouraged to live up to the church's teachings on safe sex and true love .
Chastity Days will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 12 in the University of Miami's Gusman Hall, 1314 Miller Dr.; Feb. 14 at Florida Memorial College, 15800 NW 42nd Ave. in the Lou Rawls Theater in Miami Gardebs; Feb. 19 at Broward College's Bailey Hall, 3501 SW Davie Rd., and Feb. 21, at Belen Jesuit Prep, 500 SW 127th Ave. in Miami.
The events are sponsored and organized by the archdiocese's Respect Life Office with help from members of the Miami Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women..
Music at St. Johns
Alejandra Czarny will present "Songs from Latin American, Judaism and Eastern Europe" in a concert to be at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17 at St. Johns on the Lake United Methodist Church, 4760 Pine Tree Dr. in Miami Beach.
During the concert, Czarny and her band, comprised of Fabian Michique on guitar; Alberto Miranda on bass, and Carlos Planas on percussion, will sing of the ways in which we all may be seen as immigrants. "Our lives didn't start here and now," she said in a press release. "Every one of us carries heritages, languages, experiences and values that reach back for generations."
Born in Argentina, her own roots are in Latin America and Judaism and Eastern Europe. Czarny now lives in South Florida. She has been composing, performing and teaching and providing music therapy for nearly 30 years and has released several albums.

Sousa concert at Banyan Bowl
The Greater Miami Symphonic Band will present a Sousa Concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 17, in the Banyan Bowl at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 SW 57th Ave.
The 85-member band will recreate the type of concert that the Sousa Band performed over 100 years ago, in a family style concert.

String quartet to perform for Valentine’s Day
The Alhambra String Quartet, along with pianist Mia Vassilev, will present a Valentines Day Concert, featuring an evening of favorite classical excerpts and multicultural popular pieces at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave.
The program will include selected works to include quartets and quintets by Schumann, Dvorak, Haydn, and Mozart; some lively tangos and popular songs by the Beatles and Elvis.
