A Miami-Dade Corrections officer was arrested Friday on accusations that she tried to kill a man, corrections officials said.

Sgt. Angeleatha Chestnut, 47, a longtime Miami-Dade Corrections officer, was released early Saturday on $20,000 bond after being charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a weapon, Miami-Dade Corrections spokeswoman Janelle Hall said Saturday.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, began as a domestic dispute.

An injured, unidentified man was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Hall said. His condition is unknown.

Chestnut was promoted to corporal in the department in September 2003, according to a Miami Herald report. She was later made a Sergeant.
