Sorry to see the propaganda letter from David Perez, President of the South Florida Council of Firefighters.
This letter isn’t to denigrate what these men and women do, but to put things into perspective.
Public employees like these firefighters live off the taxpayer, who has no say in these contract arrangements which include wasteful items like “the drop.”
The deals are struck with bullying unions and weak politicians who give into union demands to get union votes.
However, when property values and business slow down, then there’s less revenue. Why should taxpayers give more?
The public pension system needs reform, especially as it relates to firefighters and police.
It’s unfair to add this burden of gold-plated retirement plans to already strapped taxpayers.
