Sant La applauds Senator Anitere Flores, Florida Senate District 37 and Representative Carlos Trujillo, Florida House District 105 for their leadership on Senate Bill 180 and House Bill 17, requesting the expansion of accessibility to postsecondary education for undocumented Florida students. Senate Bill 180 and House Bill 17 seek to provide Florida students who are undocumented, access to in-state tuition rates at a public state colleges or universities.
Sant La believes that in-state tuition will benefit the millions of individuals whose aspirations, dreams and goals are to obtain higher education. They will acquire the necessary skills and training to become productive and self-sufficient citizens, who contribute to the economic prosperity of this state and of this country.
As members of a community with significant numbers of undocumented individuals, even more so with the recent influx of Haitian Earthquake Survivors who fall under this category, Sant La embraces and supports this bill wholeheartedly because it is in alignment with our mission, values and beliefs.
Senate Bill 180 and House Bill 17 are simply an imperative for the nearly 12 million undocumented students, who continue to seek and reaffirm the power of the American Dream. Senate Bill 180 and House Bill 17 reaffirm our American ideals and values. We urge members of the Florida Legislature to support this legislation and demonstrate that they stand with the state and with its future civic, business, educational, technological and cultural leaders.
