GAMES NOTES: Looking to build off a win in their last outing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will host the Florida State Seminoles in an Atlantic Coast Conference battle at McCamish Pavilion. In its battle with then No. 5 Duke on Saturday the Seminoles were unable to post a victory as they dropped the 79-60 decision. It was the second loss in the last three games for the Seminoles who are now 12-9 overall, while fighting to an even 4-4 in league play. Florida State has split its six true road contests this season. After having loss five straight contests the Yellow Jackets have begun to get back on track with wins in two of their last three. The most recent victory was a 66-60 triumph over Virginia on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets are now 12-8 on the campaign though they have really struggled in league play at 2-6. McCamish Pavilion has been a sanctuary for Georgia Tech which is 10-2 on its home floor this season. Florida State has really dominated this conference rivalry of late with wins in each of the last seven contests between the squads. It is the longest losing streak for the Yellow Jackets in the all-time series which they trail, 36-27. In its loss to Duke, Florida State dug itself into a deep hole and was unable to recover in the second half. The Seminoles shot just 28.6 percent in the first half, while allowing Duke to shoot above 59 percent from the field in both periods. Aaron Thomas scored 14 points as the only player in double figures. On the season Michael Snaer (13.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg) has been the leading scorer for the Seminoles.Although he has hit some big shots this year, he has struggled with his consistency. The 6- foot-5 guard has failed to reach in double figures in five of the Seminoles' ACC contests, including a seven-point effort against Duke when he hit just 3-of-13 shots from the field. Okaro White (12.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg) is the only other player on the squad scoring in double figures and with Terrance Shannon (8.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg) sidelined with a sprained neck yet again, the team's best rebounder. Shannon's loss is even more distressing considering Florida State is the worst rebounding team in the ACC (32 pg). All together the Seminoles are scoring 68.8 points per game on 44 percent shooting, managing a slim +0.4 scoring margin. Trailing by nine points (57-48) with a little more than eight minutes remaining, Georgia Tech ripped off a 15-2 run to lift itself over Virginia. The Yellow Jackets connected on 47.8 percent of their shots from the floor in the game and outscored the Cavaliers 18-7 from the free-throw line. On the offensive end Georgia Tech is looking up at Florida State. The Yellow Jackets are putting in just 65.6 points per game, shooting the lowest percentage from the field among ACC teams (.424). However, the Yellow Jackets have managed to put up strong efforts on the defensive end as they hold teams to 59.7 points per game on 38.1 percent shooting. The Yellow Jackets also clean up the glass well, ranking third in the league in rebounds (38.1 pg). Marcus Georges-Hunt (10.3 ppg) and Robert Carter Jr. (10.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg) are the leading scorers on a team. Mfdon Udofia (9.7 ppg) and Kammeon Holsey (9.6 ppg) have each shown an ability to provide scoring, especially Holsey who has been critical as the top reserve. When it has played at McCamish Pavilion Georgia Tech has really looked like a different team. Florida State hasn't shown the consistency on the offensive end to be favorites on the road especially against a Yellow Jacket team that can defend and rebound well.
