As a Miami assistant state attorney before Roe, I reviewed and filed many of the then-illegal abortions.
Seeing the photos of the butcher-shop-like abortionists’ offices and visiting a couple, it was very clear why so many women suffered infections, severe injuries and sometimes death.
A college friend and his girlfriend decided to have her abort because the relationship was over and they didn’t have the desire or income to bring the fetus to term.
The emotional reaction was devastation, not because of the abortion, but rather the risks of complications and the fear of arrest. The women with money went to places where abortions were legal or at least safe. If the abortion foes, now a distinct minority, have their way what I saw the 60’s will return.
