Douglas High School and South Plantation High School finished second and third, respectively, in the Class 2A Large Co-ed division.

Douglas finished the season on a high note despite going through an abrupt coaching change in November.

Douglas finished with 74.8 points in the finals as South Plantation trailed closely behind with a 73.5 score. Orlando West Orange (82) came away with the state title, and Coral Springs High School (61.5) finished fifth.

In its first attempt at competing with a squad of both boys and girls, Coral Springs Christian was one of seven teams to qualify for the Class 1A Large Co-ed finals.

The Crusaders got a big boost from a group of five seniors, each of which finished their football season before joining the team and learning the sport on the fly.

Coral Springs Christian finished fifth with a score of 69.275, eight points back from Sebring for third place. Eustis (81.6) took home the state title.

Flanagan was one of five teams to advance to the state finals in Class 2A Small Co-ed, finishing fifth overall with 76.1 points. J.C. CARNAHAN

COACH RESIGNS

After two seasons and a 3-17 record, Jeff Mathis resigned as coach of the Coral Glades football team.

Mathis, the 33-year-old former standout at Coconut Creek High School, will head to Poincianna High School in Orlando to teach and coach there.
