Teachers should be honored, too

 

As we approach February to watch the Super Bowl and celebrate Valentine’s Day, let’s be sure to recognize teachers. As a professor of education for 39 years at the University of Miami, I always told the education majors that they were the crème de la crème. Recently Sports Illustrated featured two former UM football stars, Frank Gore and Ray Lewis, as projected super stars for the big game. I’m proud of them, but I’d like readers to acknowledge teachers as super stars, too!

Teachers are on the front line 180 days a year, so we should show our appreciation with prayers, notes, praise, and even gift cards this Valentine’s Day. I’d love to see educators recognized as frequently as we honor athletes.

    On five Sunday television talk shows, the Obama administration sent out senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer to downplay the three recent scandals: AP, IRS and Benghazi. His claim that the still-unanswered question of where President Obama was and what he did was irrelevant, since Obama was in contact with his staff, was particularly outrageous.
