The brothers of a missing child will remain in state care, following a custody hearing Tuesday, according to the Department of Children and Families.
Brittney Sierra, the mother of both boys, and Calvin Melvin, the father of the youngest, are currently being held in Broward County Jail on child neglect cases. The boys, a 3-year-old and an infant, were taken into state care earlier this month when Sierra and Melvin were arrested with the disappearance of their son Dontrell Melvin. Dontrell was last seen more than 18 months ago, when he was 6 months old.
Nothing changed in terms of custody, said DCF spokeswoman Paige Patterson-Hughes.
Bones, presumed to be those of Dontrell Melvin, were found in the backyard of a Hallandale Beach home the couple had rented. Sierra and Melvin could face murder charges if the bones are identified as his.
Meanwhile, Sierra's four half siblings, who range in age from 8-11 and lived in the same home, are also in state care.
