Parking in Coral Gables has entered the 21st century with the PayByPhone parking application, now installed in 4,200 parking spaces.
The new system has seen a significant increase in activity since its Nov. 1 launch, says city public affairs spokeswoman Belkys Perez.
“Historically, the city collects $20,000 a month from PayByPhone transactions,” Perez says. “With this new web system, the city has collected more than $50,000 for the month of January.”
The PayByPhone app offers an easy alternative to paying for parking. Motorists can download the app, register a credit card and vehicle, and fill in the location number and desired time. Alternatively, customers without the PayByPhone app can scan the QR code posted on meters to launch the website from their phones.
PayByPhone is improving the entire meter-paying experience. Now text alerts warn when meters are about to expire, and users can add time to extend meters from anywhere via call, text or web. These features avoid not only stress but also parking tickets for those without the coins traditional meters require.
