To control guns, change the culture

Yet another campus shooting, in gun-fetish Texas of all places.

Current proposed gun control measures will not accomplish anything directly to fix this. However, they can be the start of changing the culture, which would be the only real solution, but will take generations.

Gun ownership must be as socially unacceptable as smoking, with heavy taxes on gun ownership, the more lethal the weapon, the higher the tax. Some will not care if ownership is socially acceptable but some will. Some won’t pay the tax, but presumably would bury their armory in the back yard, to at least restrict accessibility. Gun ownership means the owner has half the power of God: No one should easily have such power.
