Speak out for gun control

How long must we hear the gun lobby justify unbridled gun ownership as sanctioned by the Constitution? The Second Amendment was designed with the defense of the nascent nation in mind. The country had just been through foreign invaders in the French and Indian War and the War for Independence, and soon the British would be back in the War of 1812.

The Founding Fathers couldn’t have imagined in their wildest dreams that the amendment would some day be used to justify the unregulated proliferation of guns and even military assault weapons. It’s time that elected officials show some backbone and speak out for common-sense stringent gun controls.
