Just a day after former Miami Mayor Joe Carollo started his new job as Doral’s city manager earlier this month, another familiar face from the Magic City applied for a job there, too.

Former Miami Police Chief Miguel Exposito submitted his application to become Doral’s top cop in the wee hours of Jan. 11. Three days later, he withdrew, according to the city’s Human Resource Department. Exposito did not return calls from El Nuevo Herald seeking comment.

Carollo and Exposito became allies in a 2011 crusade against gambling machines — also known as maquinitas — in Miami, one of many issues that led to a public spat with Mayor Tomás Regalado. Exposito was later fired for insubordination.

“Exposito, without a doubt, is one of the most qualified people for the job of police chief in any city,” said Carollo, who said he did not know why Exposito withdrew his name.

More than 60 cops have applied for the Doral gig, including interim Police Chief Mike Perez.
