Hollywood police have identified the victims of two separate crashes along A1A Wednesday night.

In the first case, Lucien Chaput, 80, and his wife Fernande Chaput, 74, were walking northbound on South Ocean Drive, crossing the exit driveway of the Westin Diplomat Hotel, 3555 South Ocean Dr., when a shuttle bus struck them, according to police.

The Chaputs, who live in South Florida part time, were hit at about 6:30 p.m.

Lucien Chaput died at the hospital. Fernande Chaput remains in critical condition at Memorial Regional Hospital.

Charges have not yet been filed against the driver of the bus, Alex Garcia, 45. The investigation is ongoing, said Hollywood Police Sgt. Pablo Vanegas.

In the second accident, William Weiner was riding his bicycle southbound on North Ocean Drive and Meade Street at about 6 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a car that left the scene.

Wiener was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or the Hollywood Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit at 954-967-4567.
