Though he has worked the overnight shift for nearly a dozen years, Leonard Carr only armed himself with a gun eight months ago. It was a move that likely saved his life.

The longtime clerk at an Exxon Mart gas station in Hollywood was ready late Monday night when told that men were “masking up” outside. Seconds after that warning came from Hasib Kuric, a homeless man who stays on the property at 5190 S. State Road 7, both men were met by a barrage of bullets, police say.
