The Jan. 8 editorial, Loopholes and lawmakers, points out the outrageous behavior of our elected officials regarding earmarks.
However, there are just as many citizens who deceive the government in paying their fair share of income taxes.
We have numerous friends who own small businesses.
A cruise is deducted as an expense simply as a partnership meeting.
Dinners are deducted as hosting new customers and mileage and car depreciation are lavishly used.
Most taxpayers don’t have the luxury of such deductions.
All deductions should be scrapped and a lower tax rate instituted instead.
This would be fair to all taxpayers.
