I suspect quite a few readers will take exception to Kathleen Parker’s Jan. 9 assertion that The future speaks Spanish.
It was just last November when we saw President Obama visit Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia and the leaders of these countries made the effort to address their visitor in English, and Mr. Obama gave his speeches in English as well.
The same is true with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Her world-wide remarks are always made in English as are the responses. The world makes the effort to converse in the accepted language of commerce, business and diplomacy: English. But within our own shores, bilingualism is becoming mandatory and we have to learn Spanish? Que pasó?
