I’ve read enough inaccurate Facebook posts and chain emails but James Harrison’s letter, No help for workers, was enough.
People need to remember that it was President Obama who proposed the 2-percent Social Security tax reduction two years ago as a method to put more money back into the weak economy. It was Obama who got it extended again last year and, while he suggested it should have been included in the fiscal cliff deal, Republicans made it clear they wouldn’t support any deal that included it.
So for everyone that wants to complain that they’re getting more money taken out of their paychecks, I agree with you. But if you’re going to be intellectually honest, don’t blame Obama. Blame the extreme Republican Party and their fantasyland thinking. Clearly, they don’t understand that Social Security is paid for by its own tax.
