Kansas City to host 2013 MLS All-Star Game

The Sports Network

Major League Soccer announced Thursday that the 2013 All-Star Game will be held at Livestrong Sporting Park on Wednesday, July 31.

No opponent has been named, but MLS did confirm that the match will follow the same format as previous years, pitting the league's top talent against a renowned international club.

It will mark the 10th time that an international team has faced the MLS All- Stars, who are 6-2-1 in those matches. In previous years, the international opponent has included English Premier League sides Manchester United (2010 & 2011), Chelsea (2006 & 2012) and Everton (2009) as well as Mexican giants Chivas de Guadalajara (2003).

Livestrong Sporting Park is one of America's premier soccer specific stadiums. Since opening in June of 2011, the venue has been sold out for 17 of Sporting Kansas City's 18 MLS matches. The venue has also played host to the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championship, 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches, 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying matches, U.S. men's and women's national team matches and international friendlies.
