Captain Jason Long of Best Bet Sportfishing out of Marathon reported wahoo fishing has been excellent offshore of Marathon in depths from 100 to 300 feet of water. … Captain Rob Modys of SoulMate Fishing Charters out of Fort Myers reported that working the mangrove points and oyster bar drop offs — when the tide and wind are moving in the same direction and with live shrimp on jigs or under a float — is producing big catches of redfish, snook, sheepshead, pompano, trout and black drum.

Broward

Richard Shafter and his sons Max and Josh — all from Canada — fished with captain Jorge Valverde of Low Places Guide Service over the shallow flats of South Biscayne Bay and had action from small tarpon, bonefish and sharks to 4.6 feet on 10-pound spin tackle. … Bouncer Smith On recent charters Mark Hoffman of New York released three sailfish and a kingfish. … Eiden Ascanio, 8, of Sunny Isles caught and released his first sailfish and James Scarpa from Michigan released his first sailfish that ate a live pilchard.

John Jackson Rick Barry of Key Largo Rods reported the catch of a 59.8-pound African pompano caught offshore of Islamorada. Islamorada angler Carol Ensor made the catch. The African pompano could have been a new women’s world record but guide and captain James Dalrymple of Islamorada accidently touched the rod. … Captain Bruce Andersen of Captain Easy Charters out of Islamorada reported during a short half-day fun-fishing trip his 7-year old son, Ian, caught and released his first sailfish.

Treasure Coast

Captain Glyn Austin of Going Coastal Fishing Charters out of Sebastian reported pompano are eating Doc’s Goofy jigs in the Sebastian Inlet and along the beaches in the late afternoon.

Florida Bay

During a Busman’s Holiday, captain Alan Sherman of Get Em Sportfishing Charters fished with his son Zachary out of Flamingo in Florida Bay and caught more than 100 fish of 12 different species, including tripletail to 16.75 pounds, cobia, pompano, mackerel, bluefish, sea trout and snook.

Southwest Coast

Captain Pete Rapps of Captain Rapps’ Charters & Guide out of Chokoloskee reported fishing live shrimp under a popping cork around the oyster bars is producing double digit catches of redfish on the incoming tides.

Freshwater

Captain Michael Shellen of Shellen Guide Service out of Buck Head Ridge on Lake Okeechobee reported that the east side of Grassy Island is loaded with small largemouth bass that are eating spinner baits, top water lures and soft plastics. Speckled perch are being caught in the Kissimmee River. … Steve Stinson of Canada took the first place honors during the Walmart Bass Fishing League Tournament in Clewiston with a five-fish limit of 32.10 pounds.

Members of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic fishery management councils will host the sessions, featuring topics such as whether to manage yellowtail and mutton snapper regionally or separately in state and federal waters. Meetings will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. July 29 at the IGFA Hall of Fame & Museum in Dania Beach; July 30 at the Murray E.
