In Fabiola Sanitago’s Jan. 5 column, No end in sight to Cuba indignities, the crucial sentence comes in the third paragraph, when she states, “The generation of our parents, who left it all behind and fought for a democratic Cuba from exile.” The original error that perpetuates itself in part of Miami’s Cuban community is the belief that leaving and then fighting is the correct course. It hasn’t worked for the exile community in 54 years, and will never work. The fight for a democratic Cuba, which began in 1952, must be fought in Cuba, by those who live there.
I would ask Ms. Santiago after almost four generations in exile, when will it end?
