It would have been wonderful to see the Republican-led Congress show leadership by setting an example and cutting its own self-granted entitlements first. Given the fact that they are responsible for wasteful spending as well as taxation, you would think that at least one member would have mentioned their undeserved salaries, high-end pensions, premier health insurance and expense accounts.
Instead they’re calling Social Security an entitlement when the fact is that we paid into it. Had our forced contributions been invested wisely there would be sufficient funds without the need to reduce payments or increase contributions. The hypocrisy is beyond words. It is little wonder Congress’ approval rating continues to plunge.
