I cannot tell you how angry Bill Silver’s Dec. 22 letter, Dead serious, made me. To suggest that any part of the United States Constitution is outdated and inappropriate is absurd! If the Second Amendment can be rendered ineffective by legislative action, then any and all of our liberties and rights are subject to the whim of the government in power. It wouldn’t be long before freedom of speech; freedom of religion and freedom of assembly are considered inconvenient and inappropriate.
He needs to read the history surrounding the creation of the Constitution to better understand why those provisions were included. From my perspective on the condition of our government, they are needed now more than ever.
