Letter writer Javier Rodriguez is sadly mistaken in his facts, not to mention his opinions, on the sanctity of life.
According to figures from the Centers for Disease Control, there were 32,163 deaths in 2011 due to firearms, a figure consistent with annual figures from years past. Given this significant number, licensing, background and registration requirements and bans on private ownership of military-style weapons and ammunition, is more than justified by the potential for harm. As to the writer’s other points, support for sex education, the right to choose and equal rights for all people regardless of sexual orientation are all admirable moral values that respect the sanctity of every person’s right of self determination.
