I’m happy to see that, once again, the GOP has looked out for my interest as a Social Security retirement recipient. Their idea of a chained index for calculating cost of living increases for Social Security will slow the growth of this federal boondoggle. Certainly, the 1.7 percent increase I will receive in 2013 is overly generous. I have no idea how to spend the extra $20 that I will receive.
My wife and I agree that when prices rise, spending habits change. We have looked at our budget and have determined that if food prices rise we can simply stop eating. It would be healthier. When FPL wants us to pay for new power plants in advance, we can burn candles, or use the light from the nearby streetlight.
Shelter? Who needs it? This is Florida! We can live outside! The GOP’s reality is much more fiscally sound than ours.
