Bronies and Pegasisters rejoice.

South Florida fans of the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, will surely get a kick out of attending the Animate! Miami convention at the Miami Airport Convention Center Jan.18-20.

Actors who provide the voices for the series, including Peter New, who is the voice of Big Macintosh and Magnum, will be at the event.

There will be a long list of voice actors from popular cartoon and anime series, as well as artists, bands and comedians. There will also be a question and answer portion.

For those unfamiliar with the cult following inspired by the My Little Pony series on the Hub network: A Brony is a male fan of the cartoon, while a Pegasister is a female fan of the show — titles analogous to Trekkies who follow Star Trek or Whovians who follow Dr. Who.

Event organizer Mike Broder said South Florida fans were clamoring for a My Little Pony presence at the show .

“It is the hottest show out there,” he said in a phone interview. “The kids have been clamoring for the actors of the show.”

About 5,000s are expected to participate for the full weekend celebration. There will be live music, video games and “cosplay” photo shoots. Cosplay is short for costume play, which is when participants wear costumes representing their favorite character.

“There is a vibrant crowd that loves this,” said Broder.

Broder also runs the popular Florida Supercon event held in July. This year, Star Trek actor George Takei is scheduled for the event.

Animate! Miami will focus only on anime, cartoons and video games.

Cast members of the popular shows High School of the Dead and Soul Eater will also be at Animate! Miami. Vendors, workshops, panels and a costume contest for cash will take place. There will be a performance by phoenix/NEBULIN, a rock band originating from Miami known for their industrial and metal genre. Moreover, the female-fronted rock band Queen Dementia will also hit the stage.

“Where else can these kids meet these people that they watch and hear on TV?” he said. “They can meet these people of the geek world and they get to interact with them.”
