Tornadoes highlight All-State selections

Class 4A state champion Booker T. Washington led Miami-Dade County’s strong representation on that classification’s All-State football teams released Thursday.

The Tornadoes, who won their second state title since 2007 this season with a 13-1 record, had five players earn first-team honors. Making the list on offense were junior quarterback Treon Harris and senior tackle Denver Kirkland.

Senior defensive end Chad Thomas, senior linebacker Matthew Thomas and senior defensive back Darren Parker were selected on defense.

Gulliver Prep senior running back Bo Ellis and senior offensive lineman Jordi Dalmau each made first team for the Raiders, who advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Monsignor Pace senior linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. and La Salle junior kicker Alejandro Cardenas also earned first-team honors.

Westminster Christian all-purpose sophomore Tim Irvin was Dade’s only honoree on the Class 3A team, earning honorable mention.
