A young group of North Miami residents brought home the Community Pride award at the 64th Junior Orange Bowl Parade on Dec. 30.

The city’s float entry dubbed "Our American Spirit" was a nod to North Miami’s diversity and youth programming, said city spokeswoman Pam Solomon.

Judges singled out the city for its parade float that was in the shape of a red boat riding on turquoise blue waves.

Students from the Museum of Contemporary Art programs and North Miami Police Explorers rode in the float to represent the city’s outreach to it’s younger residents.

“During the Orange Bowl it’s all about youth and we wanted to focus on our youth programming,” Solomon said.
