Letters to the Editor

Right to challenge

Fabiola Santiago’s sermon to art collectors in her Dec. 8 column, Miami Art Museum needs local collectors’ generosity, is undeserved. Andres Viglucci’s article on the finances of the Miami Art Museum does not give enough detail to permit readers to evaluate the risk and consequences Miami-Dade County faces of a possible failure of the fundraising during these critical times.

Is Santiago trying to set up the collectors as the reason the county will end up having to bail out the museum instead of placing the blame where it belongs, on the board of the institution that commenced construction without having the money? The county already is on the hook for the most recent white elephant, the Marlins Stadium, which the editorial board backed at that time.

Miami’s contribution of the land and $100 million by the county gives all citizens the right to challenge what, in the end, is a decision to spend public funds.

  • Where was Obama during attack?

On five Sunday television talk shows, the Obama administration sent out senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer to downplay the three recent scandals: AP, IRS and Benghazi. His claim that the still-unanswered question of where President Obama was and what he did was irrelevant, since Obama was in contact with his staff, was particularly outrageous.
