Hialeah Gardens, last year’s Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic champion took third place in the national bracket by defeating Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara 83-63. Adrian Gonzalez led the Gladiators with 33 points and Alvaro Simoza added a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.

In the national bracket’s fifth place game, Coral Reef’s Cedric Hankerson dueled Ironton (Ohio)’s Zac Carter. Carter outscored Hankerson, 37-33, but Hankerson’s Barracudas took home the victory with a nail-biting 75-73 win.

Joan Povea led Palmetto with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Panthers to a 59-54 win in the national bracket seventh place game.

Miami Central took third place in the South Florida bracket, beating Cooper City 49-48 with Rodney Simeon connecting two of his 14 points on a game-winning layup in the final seconds.

The Rockets’ Rashard Johnson had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Finishing in fifth place in the South Florida bracket was Coral Park, which had four players score in double figures in a 67-37 mauling of Doral Academy.

Saturday’s action started out with Killian taking seventh place with a 49-47 victory against host Reagan.
