Held hostage by guns

 

In the saddened outrage following what is sure to be just the latest mass murder by a deranged gunman, I had a thought.

What if every news network ended every news show with a black screen and the number of gun-related deaths that occurred that day in America?

Just like with the hostage crisis, our country is being held captive, not by foreign terrorists, but by the fringe element of gun owners and the lobbyist group for mass murderers otherwise known as the NRA.

If people were reminded daily of the real and actual cost of our ridiculous gun laws instead of the deluded urban legends that are thrown out to justify our current gun policies, perhaps we would stop turning a blind eye to the truth.

    Teachers risk their lives

    Between the horrific shooting in Connecticut and the devastating tornado in Oklahoma, schools, tragically, have been at the epicenter of the carnage. In both cases, teachers put their lives on the line to protect their charges, innocent children, by placing themselves between the kids and harm’s way.

    The lawmakers are acting shamefully and viciously against our president and Americans.

    The Pentagon wants $450 million for improving and maintaining the Guantánamo Bay prison. President Obama has made a promise and wants to close the facility that houses cq166 prisoners; however, he has faced opposition from Republican and Democrats in Congress.
