Investigate right-wing council

The people must demand a federal bipartisan investigation, preferably by the IRS or attorney general, into the “corporate bill mill” called the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). This insidious tax-exempt (registered as a charity with the IRS), is actually a lobbyist organization and a front for diverting tax dollars to corporations on a mission to remake America through self-serving laws state by state.

Two-thirds of Republicans are members as well as the boards of corporations, like those owned by the Koch brothers and oil companies, too numerous to name.

Republicans claim this organization is bipartisan. This group has financially sponsored/indoctrinated most tea-party candidates like Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona.

It is responsible for their state legislatures initiating bills and laws whose names sound innocuous, though their intentions are not: “Right To Work,” “Stand Your Ground,” “Voter ID” “tort reform.” It’s also responsible for weakening environmental and banking laws.

Working middle-class Americans, beware: Because of our politicians’ increasing allegiance to lobbyists, like Grover Norquist, ALEC, and others, they are not enacting laws that promote the people’s interests.

Petition the president and Congress to investigate ALEC now, or we will suffer the consequences later.

Re Eduardo Padron’s May 19 Other Views article, Pell grants for poor students can change lives so let’s fix the system, not dynamite it: Padron, the president of Miami Dade College, takes issue with a report that the National Center on Education and the Economy recently issued.

  • Where was Obama during attack?

On five Sunday television talk shows, the Obama administration sent out senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer to downplay the three recent scandals: AP, IRS and Benghazi. His claim that the still-unanswered question of where President Obama was and what he did was irrelevant, since Obama was in contact with his staff, was particularly outrageous.
