Rumph, a graduate of American Heritage-Delray and former first-round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers, replaces Dellenbach, who guided the Patriots to back-to-back 9-2 seasons that ended with district championships and first-round playoff losses to Miami Jackson.

It is the first head football coaching job for Rumph, a member of UM’s 2001 national championship team.

Rumph played six seasons in the NFL, four of which came with the 49ers before brief stints with the Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams. He retired in 2008.

KREUL CLASSIC

•  Semifinals — Pine Crest 49, Coral Springs Christian 48: Allan Sachs tipped in a missed shot at the buzzer, as reigning Class 4A state champion Pine Crest shocked Coral Springs Christian.

Sach’s game-winning shot capped a wild finish that saw Crusaders forward Alowei Talent convert two consecutive shots, including the go-ahead basket with 7.7 seconds left to put the Crusaders up 48-47.

But Sachs was the hero as Pine Crest (10-2, No. 10 in 4A), which faces High Point Christian (N.C.) in the title game at 9 p.m. Saturday, avenged a 67-42 loss to the Crusaders (9-3, No. 6 in 3A) earlier this season.

Lance Crawford dominated the point guard matchup for Pine Crest and finished with 14 points.

Kalvin Cline added 14 points and Veerain Gupta provided a spark off the bench with 10 points.

Crusaders star forward Nura Zanna had a game-high 19 points but missed three crucial free throws in the closing seconds.

Talent added 10 points for the Crusaders.
