Walmart’s plans to continue expanding in Miami-Dade County took another step forward with the announcement of plans for a new Supercenter in Northwest Miami Dade.
The permit application for the site at NW 32nd Ave. and 79th St. received final approval this week from the Miami-Dade County Community Zoning Appeals Board. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013 with an opening planned for 2014. The store will create about 300 new jobs.
The site, which sits adjacent to the Northside Metrorail station, has not been developed in over a decade. The 186,000 square food Supercenter will feature a full line of groceries as well as a bakery, deli, meat, dairy and fresh produce sections. General merchandise areas include pharmacy, apparel and accessories, electronics, fine jewelry and more.
“Walmart’s investment is a vote of confidence in this community and will bring a much needed economic boost to an area that hasn’t experienced major development in a long time,” said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime, who represents Northwest Miami-Dade.
