Hebrew Academy wins ninth in a row

 

Bari Gordon led the Hebrew Academy girls’ basketball team to its ninth consecutive win, defeating Doctors Charter 42-4 on Wednesday.

Gordon scored 18 points and added six assists and 12 rebounds to keep Hebrew Academy undefeated.


• Hebrew 42, Doctors 4 – HEB (9-0): Gordon 18 points, Weiss 3, Dobin 5, Moyal 2, Suster 4, Matis 4, Slomianski 4, Chami 2. Doc: Clervani 2, Katherine 2. Halftime: HEB 25-2. Rebounds: Gordon 12. Assists: Gordon 6. Steals: Slomianski 5.

State awards

Ransom Everglades was among the biggest winners when the Florida High School Athletic Association named its Fall Sports Academic Team champions this week.

The Raiders’ boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams each led Class 2A in cumulative team GPA in their respective sports. The girls had a perfect 4.0 and the boys had a 3.965.

Ransom also leads the Class 4A overall standings for the FHSAA’s Overall Academic Team Champion award given at the end of the school year.

Gulliver’s football team also won the Class 4A category with a 3.069 GPA. Belen Jesuit’s boys’ bowling team was the highest in that sport with a 3.654.

Booker T. Washington, which recently won the Class 4A state football championship, leads the Class 4A public school category for the FHSAA’s Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup All-Sports Award standings through the fall sports.

    The state semifinals might be the last place you would expect to find a team that just a week earlier was giving an eight-run cushion to a pitcher selected as one of the nation’s 36 high school baseball prospects to play in the 2013 Under Armour Game in Chicago’s Wrigley Field this August.
