A 41-year-old man was arrested Tuesday by South Miami police and accused of offering a boy a way to make some money on the side — by performing sex acts.

Michael Frank Barberan was in a Miami-Dade County jail Tuesday night, charged with one count of procuring a person younger than 18 for prostitution and one count of exposing a minor to harmful motion pictures or exhibitions.

South Miami police said Barberan met the boy through Facebook. Barberan ran a basketball camp, and the boy played basketball at a local school.

Over several months, Barberan began to hang out with the boy, police said, picking him up after school and playing basketball with him at local parks.

After awhile, Barberan began to talk to the boy about sex. Barberan told the boy he was an escort and could help him make money on the side “by performing sexual acts,” police said.

Police also said Barberan asked the boy to film him while he “performed sexual acts with another man.” The plan allegedly was to sell the video to a porn company.

Barberan was arrested Tuesday morning. Police said Barberan admitted to offering the boy a way to make money by performing sex acts.
